Ramen, Ramen, Ramen! All around the world!

Ramen, Ramen, Ramen! All around the world!

As we’re moving into the last week of February 2015, I decided that this was a fantastic opportunity to share my ramen adventures from around the world!

From Osaka, Japan to Santa Clara, California, sometimes all we need during the winter is some hearty, rich broth and noodles served with thin slices of cha shu pork.
(The only difference is that February in Osaka was snowing, and February in California is sunny beach-ready!)

Enjoy!

Look at those huge vats of broth and boiling water for noodles! These guys were cooking up a ramen storm in the Dotombori district!

This was fantastic -- Everyone got their own "ramen booth" to eat in! It felt like I was going through elementary school standardized testing procedures, but ramen and beers!

Fantastic!! Cha Shu pork, Omori (extra noodles), a full clove of garlic, full hearty broth, and firm noodles. What a delicious, customized treat!

Simple noodle shop near my work on-site location in Osaka, Japan. Pretty plain and simple, I needed to keep it easy for lunch though! There were so many ramen options for dinner!

We found this "Golden Dragon" ramen stand in the Dotombori district which had ramen that allowed you to add as much garlic, kimchi, and vegetables! Given that it was snowing in Osaka, this was the perfect way to warm up. Also, 3 heapings of garlic helped!

The best balance to a bowl of spicy ramen is to enjoy with an ice cold beer! Local Osaka brew :)

Local Osaka brew 🙂

My first time trying spicy ramen and wow, it built up to be pretty spicy! The first bite was not too bad, but after eating an entire bowl of this, I felt like my stomach was on fire! Thankfully, Feb 2014 was also the coldest winter in Osaka over the past 25 years and the warmth in my tummy kept me warm all over :)

I found a ramen shop walking distance from the Westin Osaka and they served a new type of ramen-- Dipping Ramen! You start by taking the noodles and dipping it into the broth. At the end, when your noodles are done, you're given a pot of hot water to dilute the dipping broth for sipping. What a treat!

Nice cold beer and some pork shabu shabu with grilled onions and vinegar to go with my ramen!
